ACA Brasil carries out macro-drainage works on the Arroio Areia (Areia Stream) in Porto Alegre

ACA Brasil is developing the macro-drainage project for the Arroio Areia (Areia Stream).

This large-scale intervention aims to improve the infrastructure of Porto Alegre and mitigate the impacts of flooding in 14 neighbourhoods across the eastern, northern and northwestern areas of the city, directly benefiting around 180,000 residents.

The project includes the construction of underground reservoirs beneath redeveloped squares, with the capacity to store millions of litres of water, as well as the implementation of extensive drainage networks. So far, 11 of the 26 planned interventions have been completed.

Among the ongoing works, the construction of the R15 reservoir and the installation of a new pumping station stand out — measures that will increase rainwater drainage capacity and strengthen the city’s resilience to extreme events.
