Innovation in Structural Foundations with the ACA Geo Signature

ACA, through its Geotechnics and Special Foundations business area, ACA Geo, has taken a decisive step by submitting its first patent application within the scope of the GEOSTRUCTURES project, developed in partnership with the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).

The project presents an innovative solution for the execution of structural piles, using fibre-reinforced concrete (FRC), minimising the need for traditional reinforcement. This approach enables the optimisation of construction productivity, reduces costs, and improves the efficiency of construction processes, without compromising the structural integrity of the elements.

From the conception of the idea to the patent application, the development involved laboratory trials and tests on experimental piles, resulting in a comprehensive construction process that utilises existing equipment and materials, but with distinct execution and structural calculation. The reduction of reinforcement in the piles also allows for a decrease in the required construction site space and creates a more industrialised process, with less labour and greater speed of execution, estimating a minimum reduction of 15% in associated costs.

The patent application is currently under validation, having already received a first positive opinion. This milestone highlights how innovation is shaping the future of the construction industry, promoting more economical, efficient, and sustainable solutions, while also strengthening collaboration between academia and industry.

With this advancement, ACA reaffirms its commitment to excellence and innovation, contributing to the evolution of best construction practices and leaving a significant impact on the construction sector.
