Valhascos WWTP: Wastewater treatment using plants and remote monitoring technology

AmbiÁgua developed the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Valhascos, designed to serve around 350 inhabitants.

This innovative system uses macrophyte beds, specifically Phragmites australis, to treat wastewater.

The process includes pre-treatment, primary treatment in a septic tank, and secondary treatment in lagoons with macrophytes. The installation is fully automated, enabling remote monitoring and reducing the need for on-site interventions.

Influent reaches the wastewater treatment plant partly through a pumping station equipped with screening, joining the remaining flow by gravity and ensuring efficient, environmentally sustainable treatment.
